    LAST YEAR'S SHOW:

CHARGER PRIDE ROCKS THE   DOME!

COMPETES IN

CLASS A STATE FINALS FOR THE FIRST TIME

BRINGS HOME TENTH PLACE FINISH

2006 ISSMA STATE FINALS VIDEO

On Saturday, October 21st all 161 members of the Carroll Charger Pride along with staff and pit crew parents

came through the RCA Dome air-locked doors to the cheers of an estimated 30,000 marching band fans

including hundreds of enthusiastic Carroll family and friends.  The Charger Pride would be the last band to

perform in ISSMA competition this season, moving on to the astro-turf in the climate controlled stadium at 9:37

PM.

Thirty nine of the best high school bands from around the state of Indiana had performed

starting at 10:00 AM in four different classes before Carroll's last performance of "Astral Cycle".  It was amazing

to think that of the nearly 200  marching bands that started the competition season, that the Charger Pride would

close the evening with a spirited performance before the final placement awards were given out by ISSMA

officials.

Freshman Clarinet player Selina Hammond said of her experience "When we were in the RCA Dome's air-lock

I realized that our band had become one of the top ten bands in Indiana's Class A and I thought it was crazy!

Marching band is the best and most fun experience I could have as a freshman".

The 2006 The music for the 2006 Charger Pride show entitled "Astral Cycle", written by current Ball State student

(and former Carroll graduate) Alex Yoder, consists of five parts.  The show is about the life cycle of a star, with

part one entitled "Nebula" which represents cosmic matter void of form.  Part two is called "Fusion", which

represents the creative process as life begins.  Part three is called "Red Giant" , and represents the star in it's

intermediary stage of existence.  Part Four is called "Super Nova" and represents the destruction of the star.

Finally, part five is entitled "Black Hole" which represents all matter  being engulfed in an inescapable

gravitational pull.  The drill was written by Bob Buckner.

When the Charger Pride first stepped onto the field, the crowd was chanting C-A-R-R-O-L-L!  until the band

started their warm-up.  I had chills up and down my spine as they played the Disney classic from Pinocchio,

"When You Wish Upon A Star".   The band then opened the competitive portion of their show by spreading out

over the entire field with individual poses.  Three large star props were placed on the field to add color and extra

visual effect to the show.  As the performance proceeds, the band forms shows off several celestial star

formations.  Towards the end of the show the entire band quickly moves to the center of the field, as the color

guard covers the band with several huge black flags, representing a black hole.   The band then explodes into

a crescendo in the front of the field, as the Dome crowd cheers them on.

Senior Allie Taller, who had a beautiful Baritone solo during the show, said of the performance "When we were in

the holding area, waiting to go on to the field, I was thinking of all the great times we had together and all the

things we experienced as a group this year.  When we took the field for last time as a "family" it was amazing.

There is no greater feeling than when you put your heart on the field with all of your friends right there with you".

Many in the Dome crowd gave the Charger Pride a standing ovation and cheered when the came back to the

field for the State Finals Awards.   Carroll was announced as the 10th Place finalist.  Here were the results in

Class A they were announced in reverse order.

10th-Carroll Charger Pride

9th-Snider

8th-Lake Central

7th-Castle

6th-Ben Davis

5th-Penn

4th-Center Grove

3rd-Homestead

2nd-Lawrece Central

1st-Avon

In a great show of sportsmanship by the Charger Pride, when Avon High School was awarded with first place,

they put their instruments on the field, turned to the State Champions, and applauded before leaving the floor.

Other Fort Wayne are bands that performed in the other classes included a seventh place in Class B by North

Side, a first place in Class C by Norwell along with an eight place by Heritage, and a ninth place finish by Bluffton

in Class D competition.  Congratulations to all of the bands that made it to the State finals this year.  You are all

winners!

In preparation for their State Finals performance, the Charger Pride had added an extra week of rehearsals in

some adverse weather.  On Thursday night, the Charger Pride held a pep-rally at the Carroll High School gym

where the band performed "Astral Cycle" for their parents who were then hugged by the band students on the

floor of the gym.  The evening concluded with celebratory cake in the cafeteria.

Here is a review of the 2006 Carroll Charger Pride Invitational Season:

2006 represented the fourth appearance in the state finals for the Charger Pride, having qualified in 2001, 2004

and 2005 in Class B competition.  Qualifying for the state finals this year was extra special because it is very rare

that a school moving up to Class A from Class B makes it their first year.  The last school in the state to qualify

their first year in Class A was Avon High School, the current state champs, in 2003.

Congratulations are due to Director Dick Karkosky, staff members Bryan Munoz, Jim Widmer, Dave Wiegmann,

Mike Scheele, Chad Gay, Kenny Schaab, Chris Adamisin, Rachel Clupper, Dee Conley, Erica Hindman and Emily

Swavely.  Finally , a big congratulations to all 161 band members of the Charger Pride for another memorable

year, not only making the ISSMA State Finals in it's first year of Class A competition, but also becoming a State

Finalist for the third consecutive year!

that day for the five coveted State Finals spots that will be determined on the field in a spirited  competition.

                    RAINED OUT!

THE CARROLL CHARGER PRIDES BANDS OF AMERICA

PERFORMANCE GOES INDOORS DUE TO HEAVY RAIN

IN LOUISVILLE KENTUCKY

The 2006-2007 Carroll Charger Pride had planned to march in their first "Bands Of America" Regional

Championship at Cardinal Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky on September 23rd.  Rain started to fall in Louisville on

Friday morning then ended on Saturday afternoon which resulted in approximately seven inches on the ground!

Because of the extraordinary amount of precipitation in such a short time, major flooding occurred around the

Louisville area.

On Saturday morning, officials from Bands of America made the decision to move the competition indoors to

Louisville Male High School for a "standing" performance by the bands that decided to stay.

Due to the fact that several of the twenty seven bands did not make it the indoor competition, no placements

or scores were announced.  The Charger Pride took the floor at 2:20 PM and played their music called "Astral

Cycle"  in front of many rain soaked parents in the Louisville Male High School gymnasium.  After the

performance, Bands of America judges spoke to the students and had many positive comments about the way

they played their music.  Congratulations to all the students, staff, and pit crew for hanging in there under adverse

conditions and letting the music shine!

           MARCH AT CEDAR POINT

The 2006-2007 Carroll Charger Pride made their second marching appearance of the season at Cedar Point

Amusement Park located in Sandusky, Ohio on Monday, August 14th.  The band marched along main street in the

morning, then were released to enjoy the coasters and shows the rest of the day.  It was a great diversion for the

students after the hard work they had been putting in during during band camp.

                   FAMILY PICNIC

On Thursday, August 17th the Charger Pride along with their families celebrated the end of the summer band camp

with a family picnic at the high school.   One of the highlights this year was a "dunk tank" which created quite a

"splash" at the picnic.   Mr. K got quite wet (see photo above)!   Along with lots of food, the parents got to see what

the band members have been working on this summer.
