Jazz 1

This course is an advanced jazz ensemble designed for students interested in studying, rehearsing, and performing advanced jazz repertoire and improvisation. Students study, listen to, and rehearse the various styles of jazz as well as the techniques of improvisation. The jazz ensemble performs at the NACS Band Extravaganza, Holiday Concerts (both nights) multiple jazz festivals, Night of Jazz, Spring Instrumental Concert, and various other concerts throughout the year. This is an audition-based ensemble with limited membership. Being in this ensemble does satisfy the requirement of being enrolled in a band class to participate in marching band.

Jazz 2 & 3

Jazz 2 and Jazz 3 are both extracurricular jazz ensembles. These ensembles will begin rehearsals in early January and rehearse twice a week through the middle of March. Members in these two jazz ensembles do not need to audition, but will be placed in a jazz ensemble based on their skillsets and ensemble instrumentation needs. Students participating in these ensembles will compete in multiple jazz festivals during the 3rd quarter. Participation in these ensembles comes with a small fee to cover festival entries and transportation.

Jazz Combos

Jazz combos are offered throughout the jazz season. These chamber-like jazz ensembles explore the jazz combo idiom and give students an opportunity to work together in a collaborative environment while exploring jazz improvisation. These groups typically are provided an opportunity to compete at local jazz festivals.
